Check out LPK in family pictures! I am in my third week, my last and final week of a feeling of extreme sunburn. It’s been difficult but I have four more days left and then two weeks of healing. What I have many people who have been outdoors fun in the sun and pay back. Most occur between the ages of 40 and 70 and is a skin condition called actinic keratosis (AK) — a type of precancerous skin lesion.
Frequently, AKs can be the first step toward a dangerous type of skin cancer called squamous cell carcinoma. It has been estimated that up to 20% of untreated AKs eventually become squamous cell carcinoma.
My advice and the advice of my dermatologist is to use sunscreen. I know I have heard that thousands of times before but from now on I plan to use it. She recommended Coppertone sports gel. I could not find the sports gel but I did get the sports lotion. She said do not buy the cheap stuff. Anyway just a bit of advice for those who are having fun in the sun.
